John Prine is a national treasure. I have always loved his songs; especially Sam Stone, Illegal Smile, and Barbara Lewis Hare Krishna Beauregard. Angel From Montgomery is simply his best IMHO.
John Prine: my 9-year-old spoke blasphemy in our house hen she suggested that he rivaled Dylan. She was subsequently locked in the closet for 4 days with only root beer for nourishment. That'll learn her.

ReplyDeleteI got to hear him play this live in '04. He introduced it by saying, "I keep tryin' to retire this song, but the President just won't let me."
ReplyDeleteFr. Blues.
ReplyDeleteIf dreams were lighting and thunder were desire this old house would have burnt down a long time ago.
I wouldn't argue with your assessment.
DaveT,
Nice.
We listened to "Illegal Smile" during a road trip today. The kids gave it five stars. My husband gave it a turkey. I was somewhere in the middle.
