Florence Reece died this day in 1986, at age 86. She wrote "Which Side Are You On" at the age of 12 after her family home was ransacked by Harlan County county sheriff J.H. Blair and his thugs during a 1931 strike.
Her voice is very similar to that of my maternal grandmother, and exactly the same as my wife's maternal grandmother (who is from east KY). It soothes me.
